en route [/an•ruːt/]

French term that implies you are about to embark on a journey or are already on it. It can broadly talk to the ongoing adventure that life is, as you’re always en route to somewhere or something.

What is En Route?

En Route Cycling is a café and basecamp for cycling adventures in the heart of Amsterdam’s Bilderdijkstraat. Founded by five friends seeking a spot to share their passion for coffee and two wheels, En Route welcomes everyone no matter their expertise.

"On the bike you get so much out of yourself and so much out of the group. You go through all the different emotions; all the jokes, all the pain, all the happiness. These are the threads to the bond we made on the road."

Derek

"En Route is a meeting point, a place to have fun and a platform where people can learn from ours, and other cyclist's mistakes. As the number one cycling city in the world, Amsterdam is the right place to do this."

Alan

Alan

"My craziest ride was along the Netherlands coastline - 160km of beach all on sand, on a mountain bike with almost empty tyres. I came 25th!"

Dan

Dan

"Cycling is my headspace, it's where I recover. Every ride starts with a coffee. Every ride ends with a coffee. There's probably a coffee mid way through the ride."

Clem

"En Route was born from our adventures on the bike with Bike for Balls. It was born off our love for cycling and chase for the best cup of coffee when out on our bikes"

Why En Route?

Inspired by the roadside eateries of Northern Italy and France, the idea for En Route was born on wild rides through the Italian Alps, the Dutch plains and French cheese platers. Realising Amsterdam was missing a destination for cyclists to meet and connect; after some serious peddling and even more serious graft, En Route is well on the way.

Tjebbe T.

“Great place to have your bike repaired. Here they really know what they are talking about, they take your bike issues serious, and people take their time. And everyone’s more than welcome, doesn’t matter if you just started or if you’re a fanatic cyclist! Other bike shops can take an example of this! And the coffee and tea are excellent. All in all the perfect place for cyclists to hang out.”

Paul S.
“Great bike shop and cafe. The guys here are clearly passionate and knowledgable about bikes. Really friendly and they make great coffee too. An all round lovely experience”

Anna T.

“I get easily obsessed with new things, because of these guys i’m now obsessed with bikes.”
