Why get a bike fit?

What should I expect?

The aim of the game is to get you in the most comfortable position possible on your bike for the type of riding you want to do and the goals you have. 

Within our essential bike fitting we will focus on saddle height, saddle setback, reach and basic cleat positioning.

1 – Your Bike

We replicate your current bike measurements on our fitting bike, so we can make adjustments to your positions on the fly whilst you’re on the bike

2 – Getting you moving

You’ll ride for a few mins on the trainer to get warm and then we will start by looking at your saddle height and setback. This is the single most important measurement to get you into the right position and avoid overuse injuries. Then we move on to look at your reach, then finally have a quick check on your feet positioning.

3 – Your new setup 

Once we have finalised your position, we then replicate the new position on your bike. We try to do this on the spot if we have time, if not we will check your bike into the workshop to get it done. It really depends on how long it will take and what needs to be done to achieve your new position.

As a passionate bike fitter and cyclist I am always looking for that extra small bit of performance. To achieve a high level of performance on the bike there has to be a synergy of three things: Mind, body and bike. 

The way our body relates to a bike is a very individual thing. Everyone is different: no two people are the same. This is why I approach each bike fit on a personal basis. Bike fit is about positioning the body on a bike in such a way that riding the bike costs the least energy for the rider as possible. When you are positioned on the bike in the right way you can handle the bike better, have more comfort, achieve more symmetry and be more efficient. This results in more performance.

During our session my goal is to get you as comfortable, efficient and high performing as possible on the bike. We’ll discuss your goals and discomforts on the bike. Then we’ll determine if you have physical limits for riding the bike in a certain way.

 

Here are the steps we take:

1 – Your Bike

The measurements of your current bike will be transferred to the fit bike. All of the body positioning on the bike will be dynamic: you will be cycling on the bike where adjustments can be made in real time.

2 – Your Feet

We are covering every aspect of your interaction with the bicycle. We go in depth with your cleat position looking for the best possible foot/pedal interface. If you need wedging or shimming in or under the shoe these adjustments will be made. For example: if you have a leg length discrepancy this can possibly be corrected with the right adjustments.

3 – Getting you moving

On the fit bike all the contact points are addressed: saddle height and fore/aft, crank length, handlebar reach, handlebar drop etc. Also your shoe and saddle fit will be looked at. During the fit we position you on the bike in such a way that you perform the best way you can. A bike is a very symmetrical object, we humans are not. Correcting these asymmetries on a bike the best way possible will make you perform better. You shouldn’t fight your bike, you should ride and enjoy it.

4 – Your New Set-up

Your bike will be adjusted to the desired new position. It might be that you need to swap parts to achieve the new position. If possible, these changes will be made on the spot.

How long does it take?

The fit takes 75 mins for The Essential Fit and 2.5 hours for The Complete Fit. Both start from your current position on the bike. We make incremental change to adopt a better position until the cycling motions on the bike are optimal.

What should I bring?

Bring your bike and dress as if you were going for a ride (shoes, bib-shorts, jersey).
